In association with Living Streets Charity, we organised a collaborative workshop on leading walks for Muslim communities, especially for women. The workshop was organised and led by Mohammed Ismail of Uffo Athletic and Leisure Group and members of its Muslim Women’s Walk Group in Southwark. We are also grateful to the Somali Integration Development Association (SIDA UK) for hosting our workshop.

We were privileged to have Living Streets staff and Muslim women from Newham join us for a very informative workshop and a short walk at Burgess Park. The key learning outcomes were knowing cultural barriers to walking, additional activities that might be combined with walking such as photography or traditional games and accessibility issues to safe walking routes for children and those with mobility issues. The workshop also covered essential resources needed for safe and enjoyable walks.

We plan to run similar workshops that relate to walking and mental wellbeing. If you are a member of the Somali and Muslim communities in London and would like support to set up led walks in your locality, please get in touch with us at info@uffoathletic.com
