A DAY OF FOOTBALL AND ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES FOR SOMALI AND MUSLIM CHILDREN 7-18 YEARS OLD, 31 May 2022, As we approach end of our ‘Introduction to Athletics’ in the Somali community, a year-long project supported by the National Lottery Community Fund. We organised a sports day event for Somali and Muslim children in Wandworth to both celebrate end of the project and to reflect on what we learned from the people who got involved in the project.
In particular, people said they would like to see Uffo Athletic provide football-based activities for the wider Muslim community in Wandsworth and Lambeth. Despite the heavy showers predicted on the day, the event was well attended and attracted over 100 children, including girls under 14 years old, boys under 12 years old and boys over 13 years old. The event also highlighted that local Muslim communities are interested in football and athletic activities, especially during school holidays.
We have also noted through our registration forms, that people are also interested in our traditional playground and boardgames as well as our community running events for adults.
