Empower local communities to experience and feel the mental and physical health benefits of running.
On Sunday, 4th September six Uffo Athletic runners toed the line in The big Half marathon alongside thousands of people and Sir Mo. Farah who was bidding for a record 3rd win. Incidentally Sir Mo. Farah won it in 2018 and 2019. last time our community runners took part in this race, so you could say that our participation is also a good inspiration for Sir Mo. Farah as much as he is an inspiration for us!
In no particular order Weli, Stephen, Tommy, Mansor, Moussa and Ferdinand finished with good times. It is testament to these runners who trained together for the best part of 3 months under the guidance of Uffo Athletic head-coach, Mohammed Ismail. Mohammed also trained alongside these runners to make a return to the streets of London, but unfortunately sustained a serious ribs injury from a fall only 3 days before start of the race!
Uffo, which means ‘the good smelling wind before the rain’ in Somali, a metaphor for an active movement or the beginning of something good aims to inspire local communities to take up running and culturally appropriate physical activities.
We hope to be back with a bigger team in 2023, but before that we hope to use our increased fitness and motivation to do other local races and inspire other local residents to become more active through our running and walking programmes.
